AB 972 (Calderon) became effective October 13, 2001. This bill changed the Preliminary Endangerment Assessment (PEA) public review and approval process. These changes are not yet reflected on this website. Please contact the SFPD representative assigned to your county, or the DTSC, for more information on the effects of AB 972. This website is being updated to reflect the changes made by AB 972 and AB 1367 (Wiggins). AB 1367 takes effect on January 1, 2002.
Once your school district has determined its need for new facilities and its preliminary eligibility for State funding, it is ready to begin the Site Approval process.
New Construction Projects
The Site Approval process applies only to new construction projects.
Districts planning to apply for State funds must complete the entire process. In very limited circumstances, some specific tasks in the process may not be required. These exceptions are explained at the applicable points within this overall Site Approval discussion.
If your district will not be applying for State funds, it may skip certain tasks in this process. For details, see Tasks to Complete.
Modernization Projects
Site approval is not required for modernization projects. Your district may skip this process and proceed with Plan Approval.
